I’ve never been much of a coffee drinker before entering college, and then I realized how much of a necessity it was for me. Rather than the standard coffee chain shops, I have an affinity for cozy, independent cafes. In San Francisco (where I’m from), there was a coffee shop, called Java Beach Café, right near the beach where I would frequent to get chai tea lattes and a chocolate chip cookie to catch up on my daily fashion reads. I loved the cozy atmosphere and listening to the waves as I sipped away. In New York, I found a few adorable cafes that may not have the beach factor, but certainly have given me a sense of comfort and serve delicious beverages and treats.
1) Ciao for Now (523 East 12th Street, New York, NY 10009)
Chai lattes are my indulgence, and Ciao for Now’s is delicious. Also, their mini cupcakes are sweet but not overwhelmingly packed with sugar so you don’t feel as guilty.
2) Café Abraco (86 East 7th Street, New York, NY 10003)
A true hole-in-the-wall café, I stumbled upon this coffee shop when I was walking to my best friend’s apartment in the East Village. If you’re looking to try an unbelievable espresso, this is it.
3) Ground Support (399 West Broadway, New York, NY 10012)
The interior aesthetic is clever with the picnic tables and I love that it’s located in SoHo. Not only are their drip coffees and lattes fantastic, they have the yummiest sandwiches and during their “Happy Hour” times, they’re priced at half-off!
