We recently met up with fashion and beauty blogger Lara of Pretty Connected for a Kmart shopping tour and had so much fun! Needless to say, Lara looked great in our Kmart Fashion collections. We sat down with Lara at the end of the day to find out her thoughts on trends and personal style. Here’s what she had to say!
You have a great blog called Pretty Connected, can you tell us a little bit about it?
Pretty Connected is a fashion, beauty and lifestyle blog featuring industry events, product reviews, and expert interviews. It’s all about sharing information with my readers and giving them a candid peek into the world of fashion as if they were there with me.
Why do you think fashion and beauty play such an important role in women’s lives?
Fashion and beauty can be so empowering. You hear women say it all the time, when I need to feel confident I reach for a red lipstick, I can’t leave the house without my mascara… They also offer a creative outlet — how you dress, do your hair and makeup can change your persona from one day to the next and give us that “who do I want to be today?” feeling of excitement. On many levels it makes us feel better about ourselves: learning how to dress to flatter and accentuate each of our unique body shapes. And most of all it’s fun!
Do you agree with this statement by Betsey Johnson, “Girls do not dress for boys. They dress for themselves, and of course, each other.”
We should all strive to be as creative, even energetic, and have as much fun with fashion as Betsey does. That said, I think it’s a personal preference and comes down to the occasion. If I’m going to an event, for instance, I want to knock everyone’s socks off, whereas if I’m heading to the gym, not so much. We dress to feel sexy, confident, or whatever the persona of the moment is, and we appreciate it when someone notices and admires us.
What do you think the difference is between style and fashion?
Edna Woolman Chase said it best when she said: “Fashion can be bought. Style one must possess.” Fashion is more general; it covers good trends, bad trends, new innovation and everything that’s coming out of the industry. Style is more personal and how you take fashion to make it your own.
